Version 2.4
Release Notes
Released 28-May-2004
Required Maintenance
Date: 01-May-2004
This major update contains the following new features and
fixes:
-
A Release Station module has been added to
hold jobs for users until they are present at the printer. The module will
run on a Windows computer adjacent the printer and allow users to print or
cancel their jobs. This module is licensed per release station similar to
the copier licence. An evaluation licence will allow you to test one
release station.
-
The number of printers supported per server has been
increased from 60 to 1024 making it virtually unlimited for large schools
and universities. The service will start as many processes as necessary to
monitor all printers. A consequence of this, however, is that the service
must be restarted when new printers are added.
-
4 new paper sizes can now be detected.
-
Users can now be added to a global group
instead of removed to deny internet access.
-
The Administration program
has been updated to:
-
Add extra columns to the print jobs lists to
display colour and/or duplex status.
-
Add Graph buttons to the
User and Dept Print Jobs and Internet tabs.
- Extend the service account name that was
previously limited to 20 characters.
- Fix program access security that was
denying access for all groups when both groups and users were defined.
- Fix the extract print jobs option that
sometimes failed to extract all jobs for all printers in the range.
- Fix the manual
internet charging option that was not charging for start dates when the
day was less than 10 and the data base path contained spaces.
- Fix the user
internet summary by group report that was using the print balance
instead of the internet balance to select users to report.
- Add /multi command
line switch to allow multiple instances for terminal services.
-
The
Client program
has been updated to:
- Extra columns have been added to the
print jobs lists to display colour and/or duplex status.
-
Graph buttons have been added to the
Printing and Internet tabs.
-
Fix problems where department codes being
typed in were not being validated correctly.
- When hiding the department list, codes
had to be typed in uppercase.
- Close all network connections when it is
idle and check for a network connection before all database access. This
is in response to users who unplug their laptop without closing the
client or logging off.
-
The following problems were
fixed:
- Jobs were charged but remained in the
queue when using the monitored/output monitoring method.
-
Page size and colour detection was not
correct for some PCL5 drivers.
- Charging was unreliable for the the
monitored/output monitoring method under Windows 2003.
-
N-up printing for EMF
spooling when the n-up was set in printer properties instead of the
application was not always detected.
- New users were being
added to the database regardless of the "Auto Add" option.
Version 2.4 Updates
These updated modules fix
problems reported in the V2.4 release. You are advised to download and
install them only if you have the problem described or if requested to do so
by GAIA Support. Otherwise you should wait for the next full release of the
product. To install an update, copy the module to the folder where you
installed the product and replace the original file. If you downloaded the
full product since 11-Aug-2004, you already have all these updates.
- Modifications to support PCL6 version 3
used by the HP Laserjet 3500.
- Modifications to allow the release station
to operate with the dual queue monitoring method.
- Modifications to continuously retry when
client communications are interrupted.
- Fixed charging to user when the printer
was set for no charging but the page cost table contained charges.
- Fixed costs on department charging
transactions when the default printer charge was set to zero.
- The command line interface sometimes
reported errors when updating balances during busy Internet charging
periods.
- ISA 2004 support.
Contact us for a
patch to support ISA 2004's log file names or upgrade to V2.5.
A few customers, especially university departments,
who don't have administrator rights to their network, have found it
difficult to setup and use the program access features introduced in V2.3 Gaia
Administration. If you are affected, you might like to download this Payment
Manager module from the previous version. It does not give you access to as
many options as the current version but may be easier to setup in your
situation.
