Version 2.3
Release Notes
Released 21-Nov-2003
Required Maintenance
Date: 01-Nov-2003
This major update contains the following new features and
fixes:
-
Windows 2003 is now fully
supported. Previously, job attributes like paper size, colour and duplex
were sometimes not detected.
-
The Administration program
has been updated to:
-
Run on all Windows
operating systems 95/98/Me/NT/2000/XP/2003. Features not supported by
95/98/Me are disabled.
-
A Program Access table
has been added to the browse menu and toolbar allowing you to limit
access to the GAIA Print Charger Administration. This made the Payment
Manager application redundant so it has been removed.
-
Add a Limit List filter
to the department net transactions list.
-
Add an "Apply Now" button to
scheduled adjustments to allow the adjustment to be manually applied.
-
Changed the "Purge Users" option
to allow selection
of users by group or those not in the domain database. This allows
you to delete users who have already been removed from the domain in NT4
or Active Directory.
-
Add Graph buttons to the
Printers, Copiers and Net History browse lists.
-
Save the window sizes and
locations between runs.
-
Fix the Global Wizard
that was not always setting correct group initial balances.
-
Fix the Purge Department
Transactions option that was not deleting all transactions prior to the
selected date.
-
Add an option to set the
time between low net balance notifications.
-
The Payment Manager has been removed. Now you can setup Program Access controls
for the full
Administration program instead.
-
The Print Client now prompts for confirmation
before closing to stop users accidentally closing it and then being unable
to print.
-
The Web Administration and PIN change procedures now use template
html files like the web inquiry to format the pages for display to users,
allowing you to customize them for your site.
-
Previously the maximum size of a customized web page
was 4KB. There is now no limit.
-
The following problems were
fixed:
-
Only the last scheduled
balance adjustment was being applied.
-
The print monitor service sometimes stopped for EMF jobs containing an unusual combination of
attributes.
-
User authentication failed for copy charging in
the User/Dept code format when a PIN length of zero was set.
-
In some circumstances the Net Charging service
could use the wrong path for Proxy 2 web logs.
-
Messages boxes in the Administration and Print
Client programs now display correctly on Windows XP.
-
N-up printing was not being detected for some
Lexmark postscript drivers.
-
Many sections of the on-line help file have
been rewritten and updated.
Version 2.3 Updates
These updated modules fix
problems reported in the V2.3 release. You are advised to download and
install them only if you have the problem described or if requested to do so
by GAIA Support. Otherwise you should wait for the next full release of the
product. To install an update, copy the module to the folder where you
installed the product and replace the original file. If you downloaded the
full product since 23-Apr-2004, you already have all these updates.
- Fixed a problem where for the second and
subsequent jobs, users could enter a valid department code that was not in
their restricted list.
- Fixed a similar problem where users could
type in a valid department code that was not in their group restricted
list.
- When hiding the department list, codes had
to be typed in uppercase.
- Program access security was denying access
for all groups when both groups and users were defined.
- The service account name that was limited
to 20 characters.
- The extract print jobs option sometimes failed to extract all jobs for all printers in the range.
- The manual
internet charging option was not charging for start dates when the day was
less than 10 and the data base path contained spaces.
- The user internet
summary by group report was using the print balance instead of the
internet balance to select users to report.
- Added /multi command
line switch to allow multiple instances for terminal services.
- Fixed a problem where jobs were charged
but remained in the queue when using the monitored/output monitoring
method.
- Fixed page size and colour detection for
some PCL5 drivers.
- Fixed charging for the the
monitored/output monitoring method under Windows 2003.
-
Fixed handling of n-up
printing for EMF spooling when the n-up was set in printer properties
instead of the application.
- Fixed a problem where
new users were always added to the database regardless of the "Auto Add"
option. You must restart the Gaia Print Monitor service after changing the
"Auto Add" option.
A few customers, especially university departments,
who don't have administrator rights to their network, have found it
difficult to setup and use the program access features in V2.3 Gaia
Administration. If you are affected, you might like to download this Payment
Manager module from the previous version. It does not give you access to as
many options as the current version but may be easier to setup in your
situation.
