Version 2.2 Release Notes
Released 4-Aug-2003

Required Maintenance Date: 01-Jun-2003

This update contains the following new features and fixes:

  1. Many more printers are now supported via EMF print files for printers shared from Windows NT/2000. All print jobs that spool with a datatype of NT EMF 1.00x can now be charged with the detection of their attributes like page size, colour and duplex. This means that all printers with drivers that can create EMF are supported, not just those that use PCL, Postscript or ESC/P2. EMF printing to printers shared from Windows XP and Windows 2003 is not yet fully supported and attributes like page size and copies may not be detected. To enable EMF printing:
    1.  On Windows NT, go to Printer properties, General tab. Click the Print Processor button and clear the box for "Always spool RAW datatype".
    2. On Windows 2000/2003/XP, go to Printer Properties, Advanced tab and check the box for "Enable advanced printing features".
  2. All windows now have the Windows XP look and feel where the operating system supports it.

  3. The installation procedure has changed. A few customers reported problems with the Windows Installer used for V2.1 so we have reverted to a simpler installer that does not require Windows Installer. If you are upgrading from a previous version, please un-install that version before installing V2.2. (Un-installing will not affect your database)

  4. Added a Tools menu with:

    1. The Test Client and Test PIN options.

    2. Options to install and control the services.

    3. Options to check a proxy log file check for user names and extract log records for a user.

    4. A new option to change user names via a CSV file.

    5. A new option to change the domain of users in a group.

    6. A new option to manually charge for Internet over a particular period.

  5. New options were added to:

    1. Charge Double Sided per Sheet. This allows you to set a charging rate per page size for doubled sided printing that is not an even multiple of 2. For example, you could charge 0.08 for single sided and 0.15 for double sided.
    2. Log Copier Authentication Failures.
  6. Changed all Department Net volumes to display as KB/MB the same as for users.

  7. Added Department Internet reports

    1. Department Internet Transactions .

    2. User Internet Transactions per Department.

  8. When using a single balance, the combined balance is now displayed in the print column and the net balances are hidden.

  9. The following problems were fixed:

    1. When the option to use a single balance was set, a user who had been removed from a group was not added back again when their balance was adjusted.

    2. The Low Net Balance Amount field was not being set for users when group properties were applied.

    3. The Low Print Balance Amount field had been omitted from the group properties screen.

    4. Net summary reports for single balance option were not correct.

    5. summary report that was using the print balance instead of the net balance.

    6. The print balance instead of the net balance was sometimes affected for net charges.

    7. Charging to a department sometimes affected the user balance instead of the department balance.

    8. In some circumstances, users were added with the default group instead of their correct group.

    9. PCL colour jobs printed in grayscale were not always detected correctly.

    10. Detection of A3 in Postscript for Phaser series printers.

    11. Users with a negative balance could print if the balance options in File/Options/General/Balances had never been set.

    12. PCL6 documents with colour images but no text were not always detected as colour.

    13. Colour jobs for Xerox PCL6 from MS Photo Editor were not detected as colour.

    14. Some department balances were reduced when the department balance option was set to add.

  10. Updated online help.
